My name is Dawn. I am a mom, wife, English teacher, triathlete, diy'er, photographer, located in Southern Maine.
I am currently battling a deceptively serious knee injury, a never-ending pile of clean laundry needing to be put away and my naturally wavy - could be curly -- could be straight -- hair! Depends on the always changing Maine weather. And you all know what a bad hair day can do to one's psyche. I am always a few barometric pressure points from throwing it up into a messy bun.
My husband is also a teacher -- chemistry and physics which is SO far away from the way I think. He is a former mechanical engineer and approaches things from a literal, logical sort of framework. Not me. As you can imagine, that can keep things very interesting.

I have an eight-year-old son named Elijah. He is into hockey, karate and anything WWE (lord, help me.) We are super blessed as he seems to be smart, kind and full-of-life. We never know when he will burst out in a spontaneous song and dance--not in "Glee" sort of way--more of a 70's You wanted the best. You've got the best. The hottest kid in the world....Eli!" 70's rockstar or gangsta rapper he is NOT -- but I love his joie de vivre inhibition and he just goes for it.
Teaching is my passion. I love what I do everyday. Sure, I have moments/mornings/weeks where I question EVERYTHING. But on the whole, I know that I have found exactly what I was put on earth to do.....TEACH.
I used to be a triathlete. I am getting used to having to have t become a Mother-f'er Aqua-biker. Refer to my first post under triathlon to hear the whole sad pathetic knee story.
I have been a photographer for almost ten years. I used to take the newborn portraits at the local hospital. . I went into the hospital everyday for almost eight years. I also took family, and senior portraits. While I always enjoyed it, I didn't develop an all-encompassing passion for it. There are all plenty of photographers out there that just live and breathe to have a camera in their hand. I just wasn't one of them. The money wasn't enough anymore.
I have developed that all-encompassing passion for diy-ing. I love to make things. Not crafty things, but real things - furniture, clothes, art work, etc... We just bought a new house and my dad taught me how to woodwork in order to have some new things for our house. I built a farmhouse kitchen table, Pottery barn-esque side tables, gallery shelves, a loft bed and so on... There is just this gratification you get/earn when you take a pile of lumber and turn it into something beautiful. The same goes for fabric. Of course, I am still learning, but I don't just try beginner things. I jump into whatever it is I want to make/build. I am of the mindset that I will figure it out or find the information to do so. I am VERY determined.
So...that's a little bit about me. I am a pretty optimistic, easy-going, happy person who gets annoyed by lazy people, disorganization and wishes that she could eat pumpkin whoopie pies every day. I always have 8 million projects going and find it difficult to say no to people that ask for my help (drives my hubby nutty!). I always have several to-do lists within a mouse click or notebook away. And never enough time to get it all done. But I try. I try.
